Celine has been the special ambassador of Cystic Fibrosis Canada for over 30 years. She became involved with the cause when her niece Karine, daughter of sister Liette, was battling the disease. On May 2, 1993, Karine passed away in Céline's arms as she sang into her ear Eddy Marnay's "Les Oiseaux du Bonheur." She was just 16 years old.
There have been two songs written in Karine's honour: "Mélanie" (by Eddy Marnay and Diane Juster) and "Vole" (by Jean-Jacques Goldman).
Since Karine's passing, much progress has been made in the treatment of CF, but there is still no cure. Like Céline, please donate generously in memory of Karine and the many others. Your donation will help make a cure for this respiratory illness not just a dream but a reality.
