Ghislaine Dion (Gigi) was born in July 28th 1958. Like her siblings she he has loved music since childhood. She has had an excellent ear for music and when she was a teenager, she joined a band Duchesses of Charlemagne where she played the trumpet. Then she joined her family band of her father and after with her brothers Daniel, Jacques and Michel formed a band D-si-D where she also sang.
In 1980 she took name Penelope and managed to recharge Quebec hit parade. In September 1987 (just 3 months after childbirth) she joined Céline’s World Tour and it took 2 years till 1992. Since that time she has worked with many singers, always like a vocalist. In 2009 she recorded an album Le Dion Show with her sister Claudette and brother Daniel. In 2011-2012 she participated in the Star Academy as an assistant manager, in 2013 she cooperate with a famous pianist and composer Didier Chanteau and in 2014 with Nathalie H.
1.You were born and lived in family where was everything going around the music. Together you have created a family band where everybody had his own place. You were playing from morning till night. It connects you. I guess you had to be really very close to each other. Has anything changed between you and your family? At that time you weren’t rich but I guess that you were happy.
Answer: Of course we were happy. We were visitig our parents without telling something to each other. We just met everybody every Sunday in Charlemagne.
It changed, we got older, we have children and grandchildren, we don't see each other so often but it's like that. At east once a year it's important for mother.
2.You become from big family. You have 13 siblings. Not everybody can flaunt with it. Sure you had a lot of fun. Do you remember about any funny event?
Answer: There were too many. But if I remember .. Once in the evening we made vocal exercises in the bathroom. We had to open hot water so the steam could be there for our vocal cords. And because of the steam tiles were falling from the ceiling.
3.With who do you understand the most?
Answer: With Michel, Céline and Paul but with others let’s say too. We are musically connected.
4.When you were 12 years old, you learned to play the trumpet. Do you play any other musical instruement?
Answer: I play the trumpet but the more on piano at home and little bit of the guitare.
5.All your life you love music. On your videos everybody can see that you sing with love. What does music mean to you? And can you imagine that you would do something else instead of music?
Answer: Yes, I can imagine so. I look after the children, tell them stories, sing songs to them and give them love. Children are not evil and they amaze over every minute, it fascinates me.
6.I bet that when you were children, you were doing like you are big stars. And you even dressed up your sister Céline and she sang on the table in the kitchen. Today those games are reality ?
Answer: Yes, that is true. Céline was our doll and today I do it with my grandchildren, it’s in our genes.
7.Do you prefer singing in churchs, bars or on big stages?
Answer: That is not important, important is to sing. But in churchs people have more respect than in bars.
8.Will you tell us about your the most interesting perfomance or the most beautiful experience from stage?
Answer: It was in forum in Montreal, in June 19th 1991. Now in centre Bell.
9.In 2009 you and your siblings Claudette and Daniel recorded your own CD Le Dion Show. Did you like recording?
Answer: Of course I liked it. It was live recording.
10.Lately you have worked with a pianist Didier Chanteau and now you sing with Nathalie H. Do you have any plans to the future?
Answer: I performed with Didier in churchs many times. With Nathalie only once but she is not a part of the project anymore. She is a thief, manipulator, police arrested her. People are like that.
11.You were a vocalist of your sister Céline on Tour Incognito.
Answer: Yes, 2 years and then on World Tour Unison.
12.Characterize Céline with 5 words.
Answer: Nice, gentle, loving, stead fast, courageous.
13.Surely your life affects the glory of your sister. Have you met with any unpleasantness?
Answer: Many people are like a tick because I am Céline’s sister. ..for example the thief and a crook Nathalie H. Were threatened kid nappings against me and my daughter, who was a florist at Céline's wedding.
14.Céline interrupted her career so she can take care of her husband and kids.
Surely she is in big stress ?
Answer: It’s good that she has a break. A life of person who we love is important.
For money you buy nothing.
15.When was the last time when you all met?
Answer: Last year at Christmas at our mommy in Charlemagne.
16.What was your oppinion about Céline and René when you found out that they are in love? Was it a shock for you too? Also you didn’t want Céline to have someone that older?
Answer: I knew it because I was with them on World Tour. I wasn’t disappointed because I knew he loves her too. It’s hard to find a love in the same profession. I know it, twice married and husbands start to be jealous etc…
17.Do you spend time with Céline, René and boys often? Do you participate children’s birthdays?
Answer: No, because we are too far from each other.
18.I am also from musical family so I have few experiences.
Are you still nervous before performance?
Answer: Nervous? But it’s okay, you open your heart and it’s okay. When you are not nervous before performance then you are not nervous on the stage. When you start sing a you open your soul, you are like in fever and in love. But it’s so beautiful and liberating.
19.Do you plan a family reunion?
Answer: Mommy wishes that. It’s always good to meet but everybody
is busy and big family is like a little business.
20.You live in Quebec since childhood, do you like it there?
Would you like to live for example in Las Vegas?
Answer: I still live with my family in Lanaudière „Repentigny“. To live in Vegas?
I can’t leave my children and grandchildren. „Je sais pas“ („I don’t know“) – like that song.
21.Do you visit recording studio? Do you plan any new album?
Answer: No new projects but I would like to.
22.Was singing always your biggest dream?
Answer: I will sing all my life. When you are sad, it makes you fell good.
When you are happy, you share it with everybody.
