Céline Dion performed
"L’amour existe encore" – her sole song of the evening – accompanied only by a
pianist. Making the most of her brief early appearance, she delivered, with
characteristic authority, Luc Plamondon’s highly-appropriate lyrics about love
being stronger than the world’s horrors.
It was a message the evening’s stars came back to time and
time again – notably in Vincent Vallières’s eloquently simple songs, in a set
that was a dark-horse highlight of the night. Dedicating On va s’aimer encore
to Blanchette’s family, the Sherbrooke-born singer-songwriter led the crowd in
a rousing singalong of the stirring mini-anthem that celebrates love’s
permanence.
