Over the course of the five years that it has been on television, Glee has paid tribute to many music industry greats including but not limited to Whitney Houston, The Beatles, Billy Joel and Britney Spears, but one woman with a killer voice who has never gotten the complete tribute treatment is none other than Canadian transplant, Celine Dion.
Sure, a handful of Celine’s tunes have been covered on the FOX hit in seasons past — “To Love You More,” “Taking Chances,” and “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” immediately come to mind — but there are still plenty of tracks to choose from should producers decide to go all out and devote an entire hour to the 46-year-old’s body of work.
During a Twitter Q&A last month, one curious fan wondered about having a Celine-centric episode in Season 6, especially since series co-creator Ryan Murphy has made it clear that he’s a huge Celine fan. “Lea has always wanted to do a Celine episode. #GleeAlong,” he responded.
So Ryan didn’t really answer the question at hand, but given that he said Lea has “always” wanted to do a Celine tribute is a good sign. Ryan has always had a soft spot for the show’s lead, not to mention the fact that a Celine ep would be a damn good idea.
Still, assuming Season 6 will be back up to the traditional 22-episode order (as opposed to the shortened 20-episode run of Season 5) that doesn’t leave the Glee Powers That Be with that much time to craft a fitting tribute to Ms. Dion. Looks like we’ll just have to wait and see what Ryan and co. decide!
