Latest news about Céline and her Medical Condition and Appearance on Show Céline

Performances June 9 through August 19 Will Proceed As Scheduled

LAS VEGAS (Feb. 28, 2012) - We regret to inform you that Celine performances through Sunday, March 18 at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace have been cancelled.

Following the difficulties that she experienced with her vocal chords last week, which resulted in cancelled weekend performances, Celine decided to seek further expert medical advice from one of the leading international authorities on laryngeal physiology, Professor Gerald Berke M.D., UCLA Medical Center, Los Angeles, California.

Celine flew to Los Angeles on Monday afternoon and had a thorough examination at Professor Berke's clinic.   He has diagnosed Celine with weakness in her right vocal chord, secondary to a viral illness.  Professor Berke has prescribed 6-8 weeks of voice-rest in order for Celine to completely recover from this condition.

"I tried to sing at my sound-check last week, and I had no control of my voice whatsoever," said Celine.  “We thought that after a few days rest I would improve but it wasn't getting any better....I guess it was worse than I thought.  I'm fortunate that I was able to see Professor Berke.    He identified what was causing the problems I was having, and he assured me that with the amount of rest he prescribed, I would be back to 100%.   Obviously this is the worst thing for a singer....not being able to do your shows.  I feel worse knowing that I'm disappointing my fans.  I'm so sorry.....I hope they forgive me."

Celine’s next run of performances beginning June 9 through August 19 will proceed as scheduled.

Those who purchased tickets with a credit card for the cancelled performances will be automatically refunded.  Those who purchased tickets with cash may present tickets at the original point of sale for a refund.  Ticket holders who purchased through Ticketmaster may call 1-877-4-CELINE (1-877-423-5463).

How Celine Dion's Performance at Jamaica Jazz & Blues Changed the Festival's Future

Celine Dion performing at the 16th annual Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival, her only performance outside her record-breaking Las Vegas residency at Caesers Palace

MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA -- In her only scheduled performance outside of her Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum, Caesers Palace, Celine Dion pulled a recording-breaking crowd of 20,000 at the 16th annual Jamaica Jazz and Blues festival on Jan 26 at the Greenfield Multi-Purpose Stadium, Trelawny. Though booking Dion may have cost a small fortune, her appearance may have greatly enhanced the festival's fortunes.

Walter Elmore, CEO of Art of Music Productions (AMP), producers of the festival, said Dion is by far the most expensive artist he has ever booked (he would not disclose her fee) but he is confident the expenditure will benefit the event far beyond this year's dramatic increase in attendance. "Having Celine Dion here has changed our festival's future," Elmore explained in an interview following the event, which also featured Cee Lo Green, The Temptations, guitarist Earl Klugh and Damian Marley.

"I have already received calls from the management of several major US artists who want to perform here next year because they heard Celine's comments about our show's production quality," Elmore said. "Her performance confirms that we can bring the biggest artists on the planet to our little island."

Elmore's commenced his efforts to lure Dion to Jamaica, where her music enjoys widespread popularity and has spawned a multitude of reggae cover versions, more than a year ago. He brought Dion's agent Rob Prinz to Jazz and Blues 2011; Prinz's positive impressions of the festival (headlined last year by Air Supply, Maroon 5 and Natalie Cole) and it's behind the scenes operations paved the way for Dion's 2012 appearance.

Dion, 43, is Canada's all time best selling artist and the second best-selling female artist in the U.S. of the Nielsen SoundScan era. Billboard's Boxscore listings ranks "Celine," Dion's second Las Vegas residency, as the number one show in North America with 54 consecutive sold out performances before 230,000 fans between March and August 2011. AMP worked alongside Dion's production team to successfully transplant the dazzling spectacle that is "Celine" within Greenfield Multi-Purpose Stadium, which included stunning video and lighting effects, four (glittering) wardrobe changes and a virtuosic 16-piece band.

With Céline Dion sidelined, Shania Twain takes center stage

For several days since returning to Las Vegas, superstar singer Celine Dion has been fighting laryngitis. I was reliably told that she has been under doctors’ orders and followed all treatments to rest her vocal chords. She was ready to restart her Colosseum at Caesars Palace engagement with Wednesday night’s sold-out concert, but just two hours before curtain up, she became ill again
.
Celine was promptly ordered by her doctors not to perform and to rest to ensure a full recovery so that she can resume performances Saturday. It was the first show she has canceled in four years.

Country superstar Shania Twain, who had flown in from her Bahamas home to start pre-production for her Colosseum headliner show starting Dec. 1, was scheduled to watch both stars. Instead, AEG/Concerts West producers used the suddenly empty theater last night for Shania to “walk, dance and sing onstage.”
“That was really cool. We were there until 11 p.m. last night,” I was told. “She wanted to get the feel of the building. She wanted to know where her band and the crew would be hanging out when she comes to town. She saw the dressing rooms and checked the sound system. She’s really excited, and everybody already knows she’s on the right track as the new family is being built around her.”

Shania, who confirmed her residency to me in an exclusive interview last June, is said to be in great shape and played tennis for two hours with her husband, Frederic Thiebaud, right after their six-hour flight here from the Bahamas. The couple left Las Vegas this morning after seeing the early performance of “O” in the Bellagio on Wednesday night instead of Celine.

Celine’s schedule didn’t call for shows tonight and Friday, and now everybody is hoping the break will get her back to full health to resume the schedule Saturday. Fans -- several in tears -- who received full refunds learned of Celine’s illness as they were filing into the Colosseum.

A reliable source, who revealed the backstage medical drama to me as it was happening, told me: “Celine was brokenhearted and disappointed beyond words. She wanted to disobey the medics and go onstage, but they warned her it could cause far more serious problems if she went against their orders. It’s better that she missed just one night rather than create a worse, ongoing problem of several nights by pushing it before she’s well again.”

Celine Dion : "Drugs" and "Show Business" Killed Whitney Houston !

Celine Dion: "Drugs" and "Show Business" Killed Whitney Houston
The cause of Whitney Houston's death remains under investigation -- but according to Celine Dion, this case is already closed.
Speaking via phone on Monday's Good Morning America (she called the late icon "an amazing inspiration") the "My Heart Will Go On" singer didn't mince words looking back on Houston's legendary career and troubled later life.
"It's just really unfortunate that drugs, bad people, bad influences took over her dreams, her motherhood," the French-Canadian star, 43, said of Houston, who famously fessed up in a 2002 interview with Diane Sawyer about using cocaine, marijuana and pills. "When you think about Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Amy Winehouse, Michael Jackson . . . To get into drugs like that for whatever reason--because of stress, bad influence, whatever."
Dion lamented that her immensely talented idol, who left behind daughter Bobbi Kristina, apparently succumbed like other superstars before her. "What happens when you have everything? Love, support, motherhood…Something happens that I don't understand. That's why I'm scared of show business, of drugs and hanging out. That's why I don't go to parties!"

Celine Dion Tribute to Whitney Houston !

Celine sing "Saving All My Love For You"
A few stolen moments is all that we share
You've got your family, and they need you there
Though I've tried to resist, being last on your list
But no other man's gonna do
So I'm saving all my love for you

It's not very easy, living all alone
My friends try and tell me, find a man of my own
But each time I try, I just break down and cry
Cause I'd rather be home feeling blue
So I'm saving all my love for you

You used to tell me we'd run away together
Love gives you the right to be free
You said be patient, just wait a little longer
But that's just an old fantasy
I've got to get ready, just a few minutes more
Gonna get that old feeling when you walk through that door
For tonight is the night, for feeling alright
We'll be making love the whole night through
So I'm saving all my love
Yes I'm saving all my love
Yes I'm saving all my love for you

No other woman, is gonna love you more
Cause tonight is the night, that I'm feeling alright
We'll be making love the whole night through
So I'm saving all my love
Yeah I'm saving all my love
Yes I'm saving all my love for you
For you, for you
