Since returning to the stage in Las Vegas on Aug. 27, Celine Dion has been wowing audiences with her powerhouse voice, remarkable catalogue of hit songs and a fiercely fashionable wardrobe. Now, costume designer and stylist Annie Horth is spilling secrets from behind the scenes and the inspiration behind some of Celine’s most memorable looks.
Annie reveals that the “I Drove All Night” singer’s ‘ Galaxy Gown’ is a couture piece from the House of Schiaparelli and was made exclusively for the songstress. “We started with the black embroidery and shooting stars that are Elsa Schiaparelli’s signature. From the early days of her fashion house, in the 1930s and 1940s, Elsa was fascinated by the sky and constellations. We wanted to create a glamorous yet modern dress. A long dress that could be worn dancing,” she adds.
After deciding on a theme, says Annie, the couture house sent the head of the atelier, Madame Murielle Berson, to Boston to meet with the Canadian singer for a dress fitting. Then, “once the dress was completed all that was left was to apply the stars,” which Annie reveals was completed by a very special guest costumer designer.
“Celine placed [the stars] herself!”
The 'Galaxy Dress' is one of many bespoke gowns in which Celine dazzles in on stage. With the biggest names in the fashion world clamoring to dress her, the Montreal native has access to all the finest couturiers. For the latest chapter in her Vegas residency, Celine looked to Versace, Elie Saab, Zuhair Murad and Thierry Mugler to provide her stunning wardrobe.
