CÉLINE DION : MÉGO CAN HARDLY EXPLAIN HIS RESIGNATION

One week after he understood he would no longer be a part of Céline Dion's team, the pianist and musical director Claude "Mégo" Lemay still doesn't know the reason of the slap in his face, as he described it on his Facebook, and he describes it today as a divorce. "I would love to be able to tell you. I don't understand." He replied to Eric Salvail in the Québec TV-show "En mode Salvail" that will be broadcasted tonight at V at 22 h.

In Montréal since Friday, Mégo accepted Salvail's personal invitation after not having communicated with the media for a week: "It's not that I didn't want to respond, it because I was unable to."
The announcement that he had been let go came as a total surprise to the 62-year-old musician. Summoned by two executives of the new management of Feeling Productions, that he won't name, but that undoubtedly included Aldo Giampaolo, de man that gained the trust of René Angélil, Mego went to the meeting believing that they would announce the possible return of Céline to the stage. He joked when he finally asked for the reason of the meeting.
"One of the two said: 'We won't renew your contract". I started laughing. I looked at the other who then said 'It's true'." Then I left.

Three days later, Mégo received a call from Céline Dion who, told him, she put all business out of her hands and that she wasn't clear on what the motives were for letting him go. He doesn't know anything more about the singer's projects who he didn't talk to for eight months ever since she announced she'd take an indefinite break from all her professional activities to take care of her husband René Angélil, who is battling throat cancer.

"I have always paid attention. They went through something really difficult." He explained to Salvail adding that losing his job was nothing compared to what René Angélil and Céline Dion went through.

ENDING OF CONTRACTS
Being Céline Dion's musical director on stage for 28 years, Claude Lemay is one of four musicians that hadn't their contract renewed on March 15th. Guitarist André Coutu, Keybord player Yves Frulla who accompanied the singer for 20 years and Violinist Jean-Seb Carré have also been let go. "I understand, we are the four of thirthy musicians. There are 26 left." Said Mégo.
He acknowledges he received a severance pay. "They weren't obligated to give me that"
Mégo is already preparing for the life after Céline Dion. He will, probably soon, move back to Québec and will no doubt profit from writing a book with anecdotes from his quarter of a century in Céline Dion's entourage. He will also participate in the "Festival des Harmonies" and the Symphony Orchestras at the University of Sherbrooke from 14 - 17 May.
